Simon
Pearce
Simon Pearce was raised in County Cork, Ireland,
the son of a well-known potter who was credited
with spearheading the revival of craft ceramics
in Ireland.
Simon followed in the footsteps of
his father and older brother Stephen, studying
pottery in New Zealand
during his late teens. At this time he began to admire glass and decided to become a glassblower. He went to work in some of Europe's most renowned glass houses to learn the craft of glassblowing. In 1971, Simon established
his own workshop in Ireland. Here he produced his
own line of clear glass that honored the traditions
of the past while setting its own precedence
for
contemporary form and function.
As a result of the high cost of fossil fuel, Simon began searching for a hydroelectric site in the United States. In 1981, he moved his operation to an historic
woolen mill on the banks of the Ottauquechee
River in Quechee, Vermont.
The company has expanded
along
the East Coast to include four glassblowing facilities
and a pottery workshop.
All of the
Simon
Pearce pottery is lead-free and safe
for use in the dishwasher
and microwave. |
