Fire & Light Glassware

Fire & Light Glassware is known for its stunning color and commitment to the environment.

Fire & Light began in 1995 out of a partnership between the Arcata Community Recycling Center and a group of local artists and investors. The Arcata Community Recycling Center, in northern California, was formed in 1970 and is the oldest community recycling center in the nation. The choice to use recycled glass was obvioius. Glass is a resource too often wasted and yet so easy to recycle. As a country, the U.S. throws out enough glass to fill the Empire State Building every day. Fire & Light turns some of this trash into treasure.

The process that creates Fire & Light artistic glassware is truly unique. They crush recycled glass, or start with sand, add special pigment, and melt the combination overnight. The artisan then pours the molten glass into molds designed by Fire & Light. The craftsmen then uses a special torch, keen eye for detail, and artistic sensibility to finish each piece. From crushed glass to final art takes three days. Each piece is hand made, one at a time. Nothing is automated.

The Fire & Light line includes drinkware, stemware, plates, bowls, vases, cake stands, and more!
